The above shots show two different lighting situations shot at two different present white balances each. The top two were taken at the American Museum of Natural History lobby entrance with primarily warm incandescent and halogen lighting. Notice with an "incorrect" white balance in the top shot (fluorescent WB) the scene looks unnaturally warm - the WB setting was too cold and caused a warm color cast. The second shot (incandescent WB) looks more accurate. The latter two shots were taken in the East Village at an all fluorescent blue and pink lighting display. Notice the differences once again: For the "incorrect" white balance in the bottom shot (incandescent WB) the results are simply blue. Look at the excessive blue in the face of the cat and the plant. The third shot down (fluorescent WB) matches the true pink and blue combination that actually existed in the scene. |
