I think the best thing about this shot is the perspective. I’m guessing you were crouching — it really works.
I like the color palate too, but that’s always great in your work.
Thanks for the complements everyone. Yeah, when I saw these two (actually first the girl, her companion came moments later) I liked the way her face was framed in the very warm tones of the restaurant. Yes Andrew, it was taken intentionally from a low angle.
I ideally wouldn’t have that bike on the right side, but to get it out of the way would mean switching to a short focal length and getting too close.
Amin, the key to this shot was to get a focus lock on her eyes when she wouldn’t notice, then flip to manual focus. As long as I keep my camera close to the same distance, even shooting from the hip I’ll get a very likely chance of keeping her face in focus. A lot of rapid fire shots came next, and luckily one came out.
when you say flipping to manual… what was it at before, see there are two buttons… C and S
then of course M for manual… what do you usually use?
when i use the camera on the S there is a light that goes off which i hate cause its so strong. but its hits the subject which alerts them and of course that is no good. but my experience has been that with S you can set a focal point anywhere is the frame where as with C you are limited to the 11 points that the camera has which you can move with the arrows… I know i provably lost you a while ago with my question…
National Transportation Safety Board recently divulged they had funded a project with the US auto makers for the past five years. The NTSB covertly funded a project whereby the auto makers were installing black boxes in four wheel drive pickup trucks in an effort to determine, in fatal accidents, the circumstances in the last 15 seconds before the crash.
They were surprised to find in 49 of the 50 states the last words of drivers in 61.2% of fatal crashes were, “Oh, Shit!”
Only the state of Texas was different, where 89.3% of the final words were, “Hey Y’all, hold my beer and watch this!”
haha! the girl is a friend, i went to college with her for years and still know her well.. emailed her a link to the site. what a coincidence! hope she likes the shot.
nice catch. i like how the setting merely provides the background for the main focus which is a more interesting human interaction.
